Different people like different kinds of football. Ive always been a sucker for exciting, attacking football regardless of the purely technical "precision" of play, and thats probably why I prefer the J.League to any othre league in the world. But I wouldnt even begin to suggest that it is one of the "BEST" leagues, either in terms of technical merit or competitiveness. Please note that Ive never called Verdenik a crappy coach, or incompetent, or any other term along those lines. I dont like him because he insists on boring football, and Ive never had much taste for that. Its the reason I hardly ever watch Serie A unless reporting on a Japanese player's performance, and why I far preferred Purple Sanga and Vegalta (pre-Verdenik) to Trinita. But that isnt to say Serie A football sucks, or that Oita didnt have the last laugh over Kyoto and Sendai. On the other hand, regarding this comment: : I never made any reference to Hochi or any other tabloid sites. I was citing the likes of Daily Yomiuri, Soccer Magazine and Soccer Digest. No, actually what you said was "Chunichi Shimbun, Daily Yomiuri, Soccer Magazine and Soccer Digest. " The latter two I will agree are worthy publications. But Im interested in whose articles you quote when you said they bashed Grampus for firing Verdenik. Sergio and Tamura, like me, both disliked Verdenik from the start, and Im pretty sure Hashiratani did as well. That's only three of a very large group of writers, but again Im curious who you mean. I had a very different impression of their stance on Verdenik. As for the Chunichi and Daily Yomiuri, see my original comments. With all due respect to Justin McCurry, who is part of another discussion group that I take part in and seems like a very nice guy, I dont view him as an "expert" on football, by any means. Hes just a Brit who started out working for Yomiuri as an editor, and got pressed into service writing the football column because they didnt have anyone else. And as for the rest of the sports staff, they make Justin look like a genius. Incidentally, which teams DO you support? Any early expectations for the Emperor's Cup?
