Re: Verdenik IS staying onPosted by japanese_guy on December 07, 2003 at 06:21:48: In Reply to: Re: Verdenik IS staying on posted by Matsu on December 07, 2003 at 03:36:44: what you say makes sense, but i'm not qualified to critique the national team squad (i'm not interested and i don't watch their games) so i'll leave it at that. the main reason i don't like zico is that he's totally gone back on his words on what he said when he first took over. for instance, he claimed that he would select players based on their club performance, not simply based on whether/not the player plays abroad. yet, zico has selected kawaguchi while he was warming the bench at portsmouth, hiroyama while he'd done nothing worthwhile in france, and has continued to call up suzuki who's a striker who can't score goals. mainly, i can't stand the self-proclaimed 'captain', who's joined at the hip with zico. i can't stand kawabuchi's vanity, his sticking his nose into clubs' personnel issues which are none of his business, his overt emphasis of the national team at the expense of j-league (he helped secure something like 130 days between the national team and the u-22 team next year, leading to an extremely fragmented j1 schedule), etc, etc. so i guess i don't like zico (fair or not) by association. i feel like the j league is being stifled under kawabuchi's jfa helm. the only way captain-idiot will resign is if zico fails miserably. hey, it's been good debating with you. i'm going away for vacation shortly. my props to you for keeping up an excellent site.
