I totally agree with some of your comments, but singling out Ortega or Argentines for that matter is really not necessary, the diving disease as I call it is pretty much a cancer on every national squad. Lets not forget Owens first goal against Argentina where he dove against the back of an Argentine defender to get a penalty shot. Or how about Totti of Italy, or the countless dives of Mijatovic in Euro 2000, I mean I could go on for days, so why pick on Argentina and Ortega? Secondly if you have the Holland versus Argentina game on tape, watch closely when Ortega goes down in the box I think you will find there actually was contact, in fact Ortega was virtually sandwiched by two defenders. Thirdly why was it an embarrassing loss to Holland and forgetable? I thought it was a good game with plenty of chances created by both sides and plenty of drama, Passarella however played Argentina to restrictive and to far in their own half, thats all. I agree that there should be more punishment for diving and cheating, but also there should be more punishment for players that are built like Hercules and just see fit to take down a playmaker when they get past them with a nice dribble or juke move, ( again watch the Holland Argentina match and how many times Davids took the "overrated" Ortega out of the play because his moves were too quick for him). I find that if its a fifty fifty call for the ref then perhaps he should just let play go on, but if it really is an obvious dive especially one looking for a penalty it should be treated like a tackle from behind and a red card should be awarded.Take Care.

  • Globe I understand that many things are "perception" especially in the "emotional world of international soccer, but I really urge to watch those two games again and try to be as objective as possible and then tell me who dived when(NT) matias 14:27:56 8/21/00 (0)
