Definitely a player that will be tapped, even though his role will be 99% confined to the practice field. He isnt really THAT old, though it is true that 34 (next year) is getting up there. Besides, he was a late bloomer and I think that right now he is playing the best football of his career.

Another important factor is that he is the one real veteran on a very young team (even Hattori and Morishima are under 28), and he can provide leadership and stability, as well as the respect, that really no other team member (except maybe Hattori) commands.

And above all, he has the sort of energy and enthusiasm you wish could be put into bottles and administered to every player in the team right before every match (with the exception of Suzuki, who should be given two quaaludes and a shot of demerol). Just imagine what the Japanese national team would be like if Nakata and Ono played every game with as much energy as Nakayama.
